OSTP Educator/Researcher

The Water Resources Center is hiring a new education and research position focused on decentralized wastewater management. This position is responsible for providing research based education and technical assistance to homeowners, small communities, onsite professionals, and local units of government regarding subsurface sewage treatment systems (SSTS). This position is in the Onsite Sewage Treatment Program (OSTP) located within the Water Resources Center (WRC). This position assists in the development and delivery of the nationally recognized OSTP education program for certification of onsite sewage treatment professionals in the State of Minnesota. This position also assists in the OSTP research program, supporting the implementation of new and ongoing research project through data collection, analysis, literature review, and report writing.

Required Qualifications and Experience
 
Education Program Specialist 1
  • BS degree in engineering, soil science, or related discipline and two (2) years of related experience. Experience and education specialization must be related to one or more of the following topics: engineering, soil science, wastewater management, or related discipline.
  • Position conducts field work in and around wastewater, including potential exposure to disease causing bacteria and viruses. This position also requires moving and lifting of heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds (e.g., manhole covers). Tools may be available to assist, but physical labor will be required for field work and data collection.
  • Delivering educational programs in soil science, engineering, and/or onsite sewage treatment. This experience may also include public speaking on technical topics in classroom, conference, or similar environments.

  • MS degree in engineering, soil science, or related discipline and four (4) years of related experience. Experience and education specialization must be related to one or more of the following topics: engineering, soil science, wastewater management, or related discipline.
  • Position conducts field work in and around wastewater, including potential exposure to disease causing bacteria and viruses.   • Designing and evaluating educational programs in soil science, engineering, and/or onsite sewage treatment.
  • Applied environmental research, including experimental design, data collection, data analysis and/or report writing and editing.
