Hydrogen Production from Wastewater with Encapsulated Biomass

The acetogens are able to convert organic carbon in wastewater to hydrogen and acetic acid. methanogens, another group of microbes, consume the hydrogen and acetic acid to produce methane. Hydrogen gas has higher energy density than methane hence more desired. Encapsulation of the acetogens protect not only the hydrogen from being consumed but also the hydrogen producers from washout.
