Assessing Effects of Legacy Contaminants on Wetlands in the St. Louis River Estuary

With funding from the USFWS our team is assessing whether aquatic invertebrates (bugs, clams, crayfish, snails, etc.) and wetland plants are still showing impacts from pollutants buried in the wetland sediments in small wetlands along the St. Louis River estuary. These contaminants are left over from the area's industrial past. It is hoped that few legacy effects remain. Field crews sampled wetland invertebrates and plants during late summer 2016 and are currently analyzing the data.
